Books sent by children in Los Angeles arrive in Brazzaville

We are happy to work on a solidarity project with students of the High School Lycée Françaisde Los Angeles. They made a donation of books to children of Congo. Children were involved with courage and love to lead to this project. They sold pastry to their peers at school to fundraise to pay the shipping fees of books to US in Congo.

AZUR Development sent them a VCD and brochures of its activites.

We thank all students of the Lycée Français de Los Angeles and their teacher Céline for their support.

Next year, students would like to continue the project.

Global Youth service day: Congolese youth showed their solidarity to orphans

Starting 08 April, 20 young students from 10 to 14 years have been involved in an exciting project to celebrate the Global Youth Service Project in Congo.

  • Course on solidarity and volunteerism: 8 April 2006

A youth volunteer working with the organization conducted a course with 20 children on what is solidarity and volunteerism? How to become a volunteer and where? What one could gain in volunteering? How a volunteer could make a change in his community.

  • Art Contest on the importance of education in their lives : 9 – 15 April 2006

A contest was organized for youth to express their views on education in their lives, their fears, successes and challenges. AZUR provided them with paper, pencils and pens to write poems and draw.

  • Visit of orphans in an orphaned house : 22 April 2006

20 youth visited 35 orphaned vulnerable children in an orphan house in Brazzaville. They will clean the orphan house, talk to orphans and offer them scholastic materials. The celebration of the Global service day will took place in Orphelinat Soeur Dorcas in Brazzaville thanks to a grant from Disney and Youth Service America. Youth addressed a message to communities in Congo and in the world on the need for them to continue to be supported in their education, especially for orphans.

The project has provided youth with skills to be volunteers and to promote volunteerism to their peers and their parents. This experience contributes to develop their self esteem to the extent that they could do something great bringing change in their communities where it is needed. They are slowly becoming agents of change, advocates and they hope their voices will be heard.

CALL: We are looking for partners to develop social and cultural projects for children and youth. If you are a school, an association or an organisation, an artistic company, please contact us if you are interested. Please send your short proposal to programmes@azurdev.org

Our Past activities

Educating Youth with Music

In partnership with the Association Action Espoir pour les Enfants en Détresse (AEED), AZUR Développement has implemented a small project of song instruction for street children from April to July 2005. These songs were taught to children in order for educational purposes.

Playing flute has allowed youth from 7 to 18 years old to develop creativity and a sense of responsibility.
