AZUR Development announces a new partnership with a women’s organization working with indigenous women The Association Congolaise pour l’intégration des pygmées (ACIP) will work in partnership with AZUR Développement to empower Indigenous women in the Lekoumou region. AZUR Developpement is providing a group of 20 indigenous women with agricultural tools to encourage them to produce for their needs. ACIP is advocating for access to land for indigenous women. The announcement was made on June 2007 during a field mission led by Victorine Diaboungana, Executive Secretary of AZUR Development. Indigenous women in Congo desesperately searching for empowermentIn the framework of its activities focused on the recognition and the promotion of the rights of indigenous women, AZUR Development has made a field mission in Sibiti in the department of Lékoumou from May 29 to 04 June 2007. The objectives of the mission were: Indigenous Children refuse to go to school because of hostility of their Bantus peers A new survey of UNICEF in Cong Brazzaville on the access of indigenous people to basic social services showed that the main reasons that prevent indigenous children to go to schools are: The first national network of indigenous people in Congo During 3 days, from 08 au 10 August 2007, the general assembly of the National Network of Indigenous people was hold in Brazzaville, Congo with funding of UNICEF. Delegates included indigenous people and members from the civil society organizations. The main objective was to strengthen the leadership of indigenous people by creating a network of organizations and building capacities of its leaders. During the workshop, delegates also celebrated the World day of indigenous people on 09 August 2007. More information.
